The
course includes: Education in the continent: ancient period-Arayan

University; the libraries; Education in the Muslim period
in India: Mamluk Dynasty, Khaizi and Tughlak Dynasty; Education

Contributions of the Educational Philosophers: Socrates,

Meaning
of Psychology, history, definition and subject-matter of
Psychology, Branches of Psychology, Importance of Psychology
in different stages and fields of life. Motivation: cycle
of motivation, social & biological motivation, attention,
nature, characteristic and conditions of attention, learning,
trial & error, theory of learning, laws of learning, conditioned
reflex theory, Gestalt theory, Skinner's instrumental conditioning,
theory of cognitive development of Jean Piaget, heredity
and environment, memory and forgetting, intelligence, theories

5103 Principles of Education |
The aim of the course is to enable students to:
(a) define education and related terms of education and
its specific objectives (in the context of Bangladesh system
of Education);
(b) identify the principles of school management and .'
'" administration, the relation between school and home
and school and society;
(c) acquire a clear concept of Bangladesh education system:
(d) describe the process of developing and administering
the curriculum and syllabus of Bangladesh Education;
(e) distinguish between curricular and co-curricular activities.
In addition to this, the students will be able to develop,
administer and evaluate co-curricular activities; and
(f) identify the school-related problems and explore the
reasons of those problems on their own.

This course has been designed to enable students to acquire
knowledge and understanding all about education and the
relationship between education and development. The course
deals with: Characteristics of developed and developing
countries, problems in development in developing countries,
ways and means of education, ways and means of
development, education system of Bangladesh, role of formal,
informal and non-formal education in development, life-
oriented education, education and life skill, human resource
development, food and nutrition, nutrition and manpower
development, population education, Universal Primary
Education, literacy in Bangladesh, compulsory primary
education, role of literacy in national development.

5105 Evaluation and Measurement of Education
|
The course is designed to introduce the students to
understanding the meaning of tests, measurement and
evaluation including elementary statistics. The student will be
acquainted with both theoretical and practical aspect of
educational measurement and evaluation and elementary
statistics. On completion of this course, it is expected that the
students will be able to prepare the various measuring
instruments for evaluating the students' learning outcome.
They will be able to apply their knowledge of elementary
statistics in analyzing and interpreting the scores of different
types of data.

5107 Islam and Education |
This
course has been designed to enable the students:
(a) to develop awareness of the content of Islam as a subject
in the school curriculum;
(b) to develop a clear understanding about religion and
philosophy;
(c) to develop an awareness about the explanation of Islam
on the current thought and outlook and love for religion;
(d) to acquire a first-hand knowledge about the principles
of religion and then application in individual and social
life;
(e) to develop morality, character and sense of responsibility;
and
(f) to achieve the techniques of teaching religious education
with success.

5108 Educational Research |
This course is designed to provide a theoretical basis for
conducting educational research. It describes by purpose,'
classified as fundamental, applied or action research. It also
describes, descriptive and experimental method with
examples. Description of resources and references materials
including library resources for all educational studies, and
designing and preparing data collecting instruments;
analyzing and interpreting data, reporting the outcome of
research and using manuals report writing.
The course is designed for the students who have studied
Bengali at Bachelor's level. Importance of learning mother-
tongue; aim of teaching mother-tongue at the secondary level;
origin and gradual development of Bengali; Curriculum and
syllabus of Bengali; Acquiring skill in Bengali; Method of
teaching Bengali; different aspects of teaching language; characteristics of Standard written and Standard colloquial
forms of language and their exercise; Rules of spelling and
preparing lesson plans. Besides, various aspects of evaluating
students' knowledge acquired in this subject at the secondary
level will be discussed in the course.
The course will be taught as an elective subject and it is
designed with a view to introducing the students with the
content-cum-method/practicum of English Language Teaching
(ELT) and use of visual aids in Teaching English. The course
intends to give the students a comprehensive background
information and techniques in teaching English with special
reference to our secondary school curriculum. The course also
includes training for students-teachers in various roles as
observer, supervisor and coordinator. In addition to these, the
course introduces basic knowledge in English as a Foreign
Language (EFL) testing and evaluation, preparing lesson plans
and their applications in the class-room.
This course intends to give the students a comprehensive
background information and techniques in teaching
Mathematics especially at the secondary school level in
Bangladesh. The course will enable a teacher to grasp
fundamental concepts of the branches of Mathematics viz. Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry. It will also
make him capable to understand better the ideas and concepts
of the relevant chapters as designed for the secondary
Mathematics curriculum. Above all, the methods of teaching
Mathematics, ways and means of preparing lesson plans and
their applications in the class-room will be taught through this
course.
The course is designed to provide basic instruction for
effective General Science (including Physics, Chemistry,
Botany, Zoology and Population Science) teaching at the
secondary level. However, the main focus of the course is to
allow the prospective teachers to learn methods, techniques
and evaluation processes and practice them in teaching
science especially through the integration of contents with
methods and techniques. The ways and means of preparing
lesson plans and its applications in the Micro-teaching/Simulation and in the actual class-room will also be
discussed.
The course provides a brief description of the structure of
social science as a discipline, its nature and scope and the
contributions it has made to human knowledge. The course
deals with specific components of knowledge and behavior
patterns to be developed among the learners as well as to
emphasize the role of the teacher in the teaching learning
process. However, the main focus of the course is to allow the
prospective teachers to learn methods, techniques and
evaluation process, and practice them in teaching social
science especially through integration of contents with
methods and techniques. Appropriate content units have been
chosen from the subject areas of sociology, economics,
political science, history, geography and population education.
Due emphasis will be given on the preparation as well as
implementation of lesson plans for microteaching, simulation
and also the actual class-room situation.
The course has been designed to introduce Students to the
essentials of physical geography, economic and cultural
aspects of human activities in regional and spatial
perspectives. Emphasis will be given on the concept of
regional geography and the treatment of geography of
Bangladesh. The focus of this course will be on culture,
economy and society of the people of Bangladesh. This course
will greatly assist students to understand and reach decisions
about current world problems. Through this course attempt
will be made to arouse interest in instructional strategies,
preparation of lesson plan, maps, charts, graphs etc. Special
emphasis will be given on evaluation system used in teaching
of geography.
The course will be taught as an elective subject. Through this
course an attempt will be made to provide knowledge to the
trainee teachers about socio-economic, political and cultural
history of Bangladesh from the earliest time to the present
(2000). The course intends to give the students a
comprehensive background information and techniques
needed in teaching History in the secondary schools of
Bangladesh. Special emphasis will be given on the methods of
teaching History, ways and means of preparing lesson plans
and their applications in the Microteaching/Simulation as well
as in the actual class-room situation.
The course is an elective subject and will be offered to the
students having commerce background in their Bachelor's
degree program. The course is designed to provide knowledge
in commercial subjects as designed for our secondary level of
education. The course intends to give the students a
comprehensive background information and techniques in
teaching commercial subjects especially at the secondary as
well as higher secondary level of education. Special emphasis
will be given on the subject-matter and its applications in the
Microteaching/ Simulation and also in the actual class-room
situation.

7000 Practice Teaching |
The aim
of this course is to enable the students to learn and practice
the art of teaching in the class-room situation. The program
is divided into four parts:
(a) 7000 A. Teaching School Subject-1 (3 cr. hrs.), and
(b) 7000 B. Teaching School Subject-11 (3 cr. hrs.),
(c) 7000 C. Reports on Class observation. School visit,
and Co-curricular activities (3 cr. hrs.), (d) 7000 D. Viva-voce
on students teaching (3 cr. hrs.). In the Teaching School
Subjects I and II, the students will prepare lesson plan
and teaching aids as their preparation for teaching. The
teacher will approve the plan and teaching materials and
give necessary advice for better presentation in the class-room.
Teachers will supervise the class and evaluate teaching
of student teacher. In the assignment 7000C the students
will prepare a Report consisting of three parts:
(a) Reports on class-room observation. In this stage the
students will observe at least five classes of an experienced
teacher and prepare a report,
(b) In the second part the student has to prepare a Report
on a school regarding establishment of a school, School
Management and Rules and regulations of school etc.
(c) In the third part of the report the student will prepare
a plan to conduct some activities related to education.
The student will submit the report for evaluation,
(d) In the fourth part of Practice Teaching the students
have to face a viva-voce examination on student teaching
on the day of comprehensive examination.
