The
objective of the MA program in Bengali is to provide advanced
training in Bengali language and literature. After completion
of the program the student is expected to be able to contribute
to the field of Bengali language and literature in order
to enhance human knowledge.
The entry requirement
for the MA in Bengali
program is a BA Pass degree or any other equivalent
level of education.
Admission into the
MA in Bengali program is on a
competitive basis. Candidates are selected for
admission on the basis of past academic records,
written tests, and/or a viva examination.
A student with a
4-year Bachelor's degree will have to
complete 36 credit hours (12 courses) to graduate; a
student with a 3-year Bachelor's degree will have to
complete 48 credit hours (16 courses), while a student
with a 2-year Bachelor's degree (pass course) will
have to complete 66 credit hours (22 courses) to
graduate. A student who had Bengali as a subject of
combination at the Bachelor's level (pass course) will
have to complete 57 credit hours (19 courses).
Besides, the students who have passed MA
Preliminary Examination in Bengali will have to
complete 48 credit hours (16 courses).
Students have the option to replace 6 credit hours (2 courses)
with a thesis.
