DESCRIPTION OF COURSES

MBA 5101 Business Management

This course covers the functions of management, including planning, organizing, staffing, directing, motivating and controlling, problems in achieving organizational goals in differing managerial environments. Each management principle and function will be discussed in detail. MBA 5102 Organizational and Human Behavior The objective of this course is to deal with individual and group behavior models in the context of different organizations and social systems. It deals with the basic concepts of motivation, perception, learning and analysis of human behavior, individual differences and job satisfaction, attitude change, group, process, team work, role theory, power and authority along with the analysis of small group behavior, group dynamics, leadership, decision, development of organizations and the influence of groups.

MBA 5102 Organizational and Human Behavior

The objective of this course is to deal with individual and group behavior models in the context of different organizations and social systems. MBA 5103 Human Resources Management


The objective of this course is to deal with human resource management in organization which includes the basic functions of personnel management, job description, sources of personnel, methods of selection, recruitment, developing and motivating the work force, procedures of primary record- keeping, compensation, salary and wage administration, promotion, training, appraisal, health, safety, moral discipline, employee benefits etc.

MBA 5104 Accounting Practices

The objective of this course is to deal with fundamentals of book-keeping and accounting. The course covers the basic accounting concepts, double entry system of book-keeping, recording of transaction, preparation of trial balance, treatment of adjustment entries, preparation of financial statements, work-sheets system and accounting for assets and liabilities, accounting system and accounting practices in different types of organizations.

MBA 5105 Microeconomics

The purpose of this course is to develop the students' skill in the systematic analysis of the economic aspects of business decisions and to acquaint them with some relevant analytical methods and concepts. The course covers concepts related to analysis of market as seen by producers and consumers and relates them to production patterns,distribution of income and allocation of resources in the context of a market economy. MBA 5106 Business Statistics This course is designed to equip the students with statistical tools and concepts to be used in the decision making process. The topics of the course include measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, probability distribution and their application in the management decision process: testing of hypothesis, regression, correlation, and time series analysis, index number, survey methods, sample design and sources and business statistics in Bangladesh.

MBA 5107 Business Communication

This course is designed to help the students in learning the techniques and acquiring the skills needed to communicate effectively in management. The course deals with basic English in the practices of communication. Various techniques of effective communication through business letters, reports, circulars and other media form an integral part of the course.

MBA 5108 Managerial Accounting

This course is a continuation from Accounting Practices which deals with tools and techniques of internal use of accounting for management decision including analysis and interpretation of financial statements, concept of cost, elements of cost and cost centers, cost classifications, methods of costing and break-even analysis, budgeting and budgetary control, other uses of accounting information and performance measurement

MBA 5109 Project Management

The objective of this course is to enrich students with the .concepts of project identification, preparation, appraisal, management of implementation and post-project evaluation. Basic analysis, organization and control aspects of project implementation in relation to resources, time scale and information processing are emphasized.

MBA 5110 Managerial Finance

This course deals with the nature and scope of managerial finance, the objectives of managerial finance management of working as well as fixed capital, tools for quantitative analysis of financial position, techniques of financial planning & control, working capital management, cost of capital, techniques of capital budgeting and related concepts, capital structure and profit distribution policy.

MBA 5111 Computer Programming and Application


This course acquaints the students with role and uses of computer in data processing and decision making. It introduces the students to computer organization and programming. The course includes problem analysis, algorithms, flow charts and program development.

MBA 5112 Marketing Management

This course is designed to present an integrated approach to marketing from a managerial point of view. Economic, quantitative and behavioral concepts are used in analyzing and developing a frame-work for decision making leading to formulation of organization's goals and of its marketing program.

MBA 5113 Macroeconomics

It includes concepts, tools and techniques of macroeconomics. Emphasis is also given on national income and other related concepts like aggregate demand and supply, consumption and saving, demand for and supply of labor, open economy and closed economy, unemployment, inflation, and income policies.

MBA 5114 Production Management

This course deals with the concepts of economics of production, basic production decision, and operations of organization producing goods and services. This covers identification and definition of major problem areas within these functions and development of appropriate concepts and decision processes for dealing with these problems. Concentration is given on forecasting, quality control and inventory control, utilizing an inventory control, utilizing the operations research, industrial engineering and system approach.

MBA 5115 Business Law

This course deals with the application of law to business transactions and also with the legal responsibility of managers. It also includes those aspects of law as related to business e.g. contract, sale of goods, negotiable instruments, company insolvency, partnership company and labor laws in the context of Bangladesh.
 
MBA 5116 Strategic Management

The objective of this course is to acquaint the students with the methods, practices and problems in making and implementing top level management decisions. It explores in depth the administration of organizations by systematic analysis of the programs, environment and the decision rules involving policy formulation and administration, business risks and opportunities.

MBA 5117 Marketing Research

The objective of this course is to train the students in analytical, experimental and quantitative approaches in solving business problems. Emphasis is given on development of techniques which enable decision makers to arrive at optimum solutions. This course will help develop skills in formulating and solving mathematical problems.

MBA 5118 Consumer Behavior

The objective of this course is to familiarize the students with behavioral science in marketing research, theories of fashion, characteristics of goods, shopping behavior, product differentiation, market segmentation, opinion, leadership application of concepts of channels of distribution and pricing.

MBA 5119 Advertising and Sales Management

The objective of this course is to enrich students with the knowledge of sales force recruitment, selection process; sales force planning, training; management of the sales force including motivation and retention of the sales force. Emphasis is also given on management of the advertising function and its integration with the other forms of promotion including advertising, MIS, selection of an advertising agency, forms of advertising and planning the advertising program.

MBA 5120 Investment Management

This course helps the students to acquire knowledge in the various aspects of investment management especially in the corporate sector & government sector. This course mainly covers investment planning like formulation & selection of investment proposals, methods & techniques of investment planning, capital structure & financial structure planning, leverage, risk, uncertainly & sensitivity analysis, cost of capital, working capital planning & policies: cash, credit, inventory planning & policies. It also deals with control of capital expenditures & working capital & their techniques.

MBA 5121 Financial Institutions

The objective of this course is to train students in money .and capital market, with special emphasis on the study of institutions supplying funds of various categories. Focus will be on the financial institutions with a view to acquainting the students with potential source of funds of various types, fund utilization and the terms and conditions under, which institutions and financial inter-mediaries like commercial banks, BSB, ICB, BSRS and other institution like World Bank, IMF, ADB, Stock Markets etc. operate.

MBA 5122 International Financial Management

The objective of this course is to acquaint students with the nature of international business, financial environment and their implication for the firm. It also covers exchange rates and policy, operations, instruments of international payments, inter-relationship in the balance of payment, and balance of payment dis equilibrium. This course also deals with international liquidity and the new international economic order, international financial markets, international agencies etc.

MBA 5123 Management Information System (MIS)

This course provides an integration frame-work combining the technical aspects of MIS to the problems of managing complex organizations. The course also highlights issues and problem-solving approaches that are important for managing MIS projects and organizations. In addition, the initial stages of the system development process including requirements collection, specification and needs analysis will also be covered.

 

MBA 5124 System Design and Management

Business information system design and management with coverage of essential systems analysis techniques, theory and application of system design, computer aided software engineering and fourth generation language tools used to develop and managing an appropriate business information system for the organizations, project management and system analysis, design and management topics are included in this course

MBA 5125 Management Science

The course is a survey of Management Science tools and techniques that have application in the business areas. Stress in placed upon the decision making process of the organizations. Solution techniques include decision theory, decision table & decision trees, game theory. Linear programming theory and application, transportation model, Network models, Queuing theory and simulation techniques.

MBA 5126 Organization Development

This course is designed to deal with different theories of organization related to organizational change and development. It will acquaint students with techniques of organizational development concepts e.g. team interventions, active research emphasizing behavioral science interventions for more effective management.

MBA 5127 Compensation Management

The objective of this course is to understand the process of managing compensation. Strategic choices in managing compensation and theories on Human Resource Management are included. Special focus is on compensation issues in the context of current theory, research and practice. Topics include: pay model & strategic perspective, internal consistency: determining pay structure, external competitiveness: determining pay level, employee contributions: determining individual pay, employee benefits, extending and managing the compensations system.

MBA 5128 Industrial Relations

The aim of this course is to broaden the understanding on the theory and practice of industrial relations and collective bargaining. Topics include: historical background of industrial relations system, theories relating to industrial relations, strategic level of industrial relations, functional level of industrial relations, work place level of industrial relations and an overview of industrial relations system in Bangladesh.

MBA 5129 Corporate Banking

This course aims at acquiring knowledge by the students in the related issues of corporate banking. This course mainly covers corporate lending policies as well as investment policies, bankers customers relationships, corporate import & export financing, foreign exchange banking & Islamization of corporate banking.

MBA 5130 Bank Fund Management

The purpose of this course is to help the students acquiring knowledge in the various aspects of bank fund management. This course mainly includes principles & guidelines of fund investment, security and portfolio management, primary reserve & secondary reserve, liquidity management, investment management, loans & advances management etc.

MBA 5131 Insurance & Risk Management

This course helps the students, attaining knowledge in the management of various insurance companies. This course mainly covers management of life insurance & general insurance, fire insurance, marine insurance, accident & property insurance, education insurance, health insurance, marriage insurance, crop insurance etc. It also includes insurance accounts relating to premium, claims, insurance fund, profits etc. How to Islamize insurance business is also the subject-matter of this course.

The objective of this course is to examine the theories of HRM from strategic and global perspectives. In order to gain competitive advantages, effective HRM is necessary and certain issues of HRM deserve special attention such as strategic & the Global perspectives. Topics include: strategic HRM: theory and practice, managing HR functions strategically, theories on International HRM, comparison of practice of HRM in differentparts of the world such as USA, UK, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia Global issues managing HR Functions.

MBA 5137 Advanced Marketing Management

Advanced Marketing Management course is designed to deal with strategies and policies oaf marketing. The objective of the course is to acquaint students with planning, implementation and controlling aspects of marketing. It also includes those aspects of marketing related to product and service development, physical distribution strategies, packaging, grading, material handling etc.

MBA 5138 Financial Decision Making

The purpose of this course is to help the students acquiring knowledge in the various related issues of the different types of financial decisions: investment, financing & dividend decisions. The investment decision covers preparation, appraisal & selection of investment projects, cost of capital, capital budgeting & its related issues etc., capital structure & financial structure decisions. The financing decision includes long term, medium term & short term financing, the methods used in such financing. The dividend decision covers profit planning, dividend policy & theory.

MBA 5139 International Management

This course is designed to deal with the management in global perspective. The objective of the course is to acquaint students with management policies of different countries. It focuses also on the cultural considerations in management and management of multinational and transnational corporations. Special emphasis will be given on different management models developed in global perspective.

MBA 5140 Marketing in Global Perspective

This course is designed to acquaint students with theories of global trade, global marketing environment, models of international trade, strategy to deal with product, promotion, price & distributions in global perspective. It will also acquaint students with international marketing services and organization of global linkages.

MBA 5141 Service Marketing

Service is now a very important area of business. This course is designed to acquaint students with different service rendering organizations. It deals with strategies and policies required to assess the need of services & providing the services to the potential segments.

MBA 5142 Corporate Finance

This course helps the students acquiring knowledge in the related issues of corporate finance. This course mainly covers nature, scope & principles of corporate finance; provision of finances, internally & externally; long term, medium term & short term financing, lease financing, financing of public & private sectors & development financing. Islamic principles & their applications in corporate financing are also included in this course.

MBA 5143 Database Management

This course includes theoretical aspects and management application of databases, file organization and data models with special emphasis on database design (normalization) and Structured Query Language SQL (queries). Discussion covers systems design, queries, application and database administration, distribution and integration of data.

MBA 5144 Total Quality Management

This course attempts to examine the issues, principles and theories of TQM solution of TQM as a separate area of management theory. Topics include: understanding of TQM, TQM Models, Quality gurus: a comparison, Design for quality, measurement of quality, cost of quality, tools and techniques for quality improvement, organization for quality, culture change through team work for quality, training for quality, implementation of TQM and the management of change. International quality standards: Baldridge criteria and ISO criteria and their applicability in Bangladesh are also included.

MBA 6126 Interest-free Banking

The objective of this course is to familiarize students with ideas, concepts, and instruments of Islamic Banking. Emphasis is given on Islamic perspective of business, Shariah law, different types of deposits, investments and transactions. The experience of Islamic Banking in Bangladesh will also be covered.

MBA 6127 Business Mathematics

The course includes elements of algebra, number fields, linear and non-linear inequalities, functions, sets, analytical geometry, logarithm limit, differential and integral calculus, matrix and linear programming. The purpose of the course is to help the students learn mathematical tools which are used in business areas.
MBA 6128 Business Ethics

This course intends to create an ethical awareness as well as a morally reflective mindset in potential senior managers. It covers ethical issues facing managers in performing their roles given the • different spheres of influence and responsibility impinging of them. This course also aims to introduce guidelines that can assist managers to reorganize and anticipate ethical implications of their decisions in a competitive environment.
